Suppliers and fitters on our network work in all nine provinces, from Johannesburg's older suburbs and Pretoria's estates to Durban's humid coast, Cape Town and the Winelands, Gqeberha, the Garden Route, Free State towns, Lowveld lodges and the mining towns of the North West and Northern Cape. Gauteng
Gauteng sits on the Highveld, where dry winters and cold nights follow hot, stormy summers. That swing pulls boards tight in July and swells them by the January rains, so expansion gaps matter more here than most people expect. Johannesburg and Pretoria have plenty of 1960s and 1970s homes with parquet laid in bitumen on slabs, and older suburbs with suspended pine over airbricks. Newer estates in Midrand and Centurion are mostly concrete slabs under engineered boards and laminate. Sanders, fitters and restorers are dense here, so quotes come quickly. Offices, showrooms and restaurants add steady commercial work.

Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga runs from the cool Highveld around Middelburg and Ermelo down the escarpment to the warm, humid Lowveld near Mbombela and Hazyview. A board that behaves on the plateau can cup in the Lowveld, so ask where the timber was stored and how it was dried. Housing ranges from mine and power station houses in the coalfields to lodges, guesthouses and farmhouses with thatch overhead and verandas outside. Many lodge owners want hardwood and decks that cope with heat, rain and insects. Local carpenters and small flooring firms do most of the work, with larger jobs sometimes quoted from Gauteng.
North West
North West is hot, dry bushveld and maize country, with a few cooler spots near the Magaliesberg. Summer afternoons are fierce and winter nights can be cold, so floors see a wide daily swing but not much sustained damp. Housing includes mine houses around Rustenburg and Klerksdorp, farmhouses with old pine or kiaat floors, and weekend homes and estates near Hartbeespoort. Many floors are laid straight on concrete, so moisture checks and good underlay matter. Fitters tend to come from the bigger towns or travel from Gauteng, and it pays to book early for farm and lodge jobs.
Limpopo
Limpopo is mostly hot and dry, with a humid, frost-free belt around Tzaneen and the foothills. Heat is the main enemy of timber here: fast drying shrinks boards and cracks finishes, and direct sun can fade them in a season. Many floors are laid straight on concrete, from small-town homes to lodges near Hoedspruit and farm houses around Mokopane and Lephalale. Termites are a known concern in much of the bushveld, so treated timber and good detailing count. There are fewer specialist firms than in the big cities, so asking early and comparing travel costs pays off.
Northern Cape
The Northern Cape is the driest and most spread out province, with little rain and long, hot summers. Dry air can shrink boards and open gaps, and fine Kalahari dust finds its way into every seam. Homes in Kimberley include Victorian and Edwardian houses with pine floors, while Upington, Kathu and Kuruman have more modern slab houses and mining-town homes. Distances are long, so many fitters travel from Bloemfontein, Gauteng or the Western Cape for larger jobs. Local carpenters handle repairs, and early planning with a quote request saves repeat trips.
Free State
The Free State has cold, frosty winters and hot summers, with thunderstorms bringing short bursts of humidity. Bloemfontein and the grain towns have many sandstone and brick homes with suspended pine floors, plus 1960s and 1970s houses on slabs. The mining towns around Welkom and Sasolburg have older company housing, and the eastern hills around Clarens and Bethlehem have guesthouses and holiday homes. Skilled carpenters and sanders work out of Bloemfontein, and some travel to smaller towns. Many jobs involve refreshing old boards rather than laying new floors, and heating can dry rooms further in winter.
KwaZulu-Natal
KwaZulu-Natal is damp and warm along the coast, where salt air and months of high humidity make timber move and finishes soften. Boards should acclimatise longer here, and ventilation under suspended floors matters. Durban's older suburbs have timber homes and Edwardian houses on pine, while Umhlanga, Ballito and Pietermaritzburg add modern apartments and estates on concrete. Termites and borer are common concerns, so ask about treatment. Midlands towns are cooler and drier. Local fitters work with a lot of laminate and vinyl as well as hardwood, and sanders are in demand after wet summers.
Eastern Cape
The Eastern Cape coast is windy and mild, with sea air and a spread of rainfall from east to west. Boards behave well if they have time to settle, but salt and damp can affect finishes. Gqeberha and East London have Victorian and Edwardian homes with pine floors, plus 1970s houses and newer estates on slabs. Makhanda, Graaff-Reinet and the Karoo towns have old stone cottages with timber floors worth restoring, and Jeffreys Bay and Port Alfred attract holiday homes. Independent carpenters and small floor firms cover most of the province, with specialists travelling for bigger or distant jobs.
Western Cape
The Western Cape has wet winters and dry summers, with strong wind and a mild, Mediterranean pattern. Timber copes well when boards are acclimatised, but damp in winter can lift old floors and cause mould in poorly ventilated rooms. Cape Town has Victorian terraces, Cape Dutch homes and 1960s houses on pine, and newer estates and apartments on concrete. Stellenbosch and Paarl farmhouses often carry old yellowwood or stinkwood floors worth restoring. A strong trade of restorers, joiners and decking specialists works across the Winelands, the Garden Route and the Atlantic coast.
